Info for To Make You Cry

Singer-songwriter Evan Bartels is set to release his deeply personal new project ‘To Make You Cry' on May 23 via Lost Highway Records. The six-song collection, recorded in a handmade cabin outside Nashville, is a powerful display of Bartels’ storytelling, featuring intimate acoustic arrangements that capture raw emotion and unfiltered truth.

Crafted with little more than an acoustic guitar and Bartels’ evocative baritone, ‘To Make You Cry' aims to illuminate the stories of people often overlooked. The songs also delve into the sacrifices and spiritual journey of life as a working musician.

“I wanted these stories and songs to be very intimate, where it feels like you’re hearing something through a wall, or you’re seeing something through a window, and you perhaps shouldn’t be,” says Bartels. “Also, I wanted it to feel expansive. I wanted it to sound like the West, which is often stark and intensely beautiful in a way that takes your breath away.”

Bartels recently wrapped a successful run at C2C (Country 2 Country) international country music festival in London, Berlin and Germany. He returns overseas with upcoming tour dates in the UK and Ireland.

Evan Bartels

Evan Bartels
is a singer-songwriter and guitarist based in Nashville, Tennessee and originally hailing from Nebraska. He has continued to learn and collect stories following the release of his 2017 debut album The Devil, God & Me. His experiences of touring throughout the United States and becoming a father have enhanced his perspective and widened his lens of the world. The past two years of his life have offered deeper insight and empathy toward the struggles of the human experience, and he clearly expresses this in his poignant and personal songwriting. Storytelling has always been a fixture in his writing, and Bartels continues to evolve his narratives by digging deeper beneath the surface and clinging to an authentic message. He captures a moment and fleshes it out to its barest, rawest form, thereby creating a piece of art that—regardless of genre or setting—moves the listener. Bartels’s most current work embodies this action and directly reflects his mission to convey truthful narratives.
