Info for Markus Kaufmann: Orgelmusik aus der Leipziger Nikolaikirche (In Love - Orgel … verliebt, verlobt, verheiratet)
The debut album by Markus Kaufmann, the organist of Leipzig's Nikolaikirche, narrates tales of love with pieces by composers such as Edward Elgar, Johann Sebastian Bach, Franz Liszt, Robert Schumann, and Edvard Grieg. Each of the pieces describes love and the emotions of its creator in its own way: be it the "Salut d’amour" that Elgar dedicated to his piano student and later wife Caroline Alice, or Liszt's "Liebestraum" based on a passionate poem by Ferdinand Freiligrath, in which love decides over life and death. Yet, this album holds more than just musical declarations of love. With William Walton's work, precisely composed for seven minutes and ten seconds for the music of Queen Elizabeth II's coronation ceremony, Markus Kaufmann creates a truly special connection.

Markus Kaufmann
Bringing the fascinating world of keys and pipes into motion with drama and a sense of sound - that is what characterizes Markus Kaufmann. As a church musician at Leipzig's Nikolaikirche, he enjoys sharing and passing on his passion for music.
Together with his brother Pascal, he discovered the world of music at an early age. His versatile talent on the piano, organ and harpsichord was intensively promoted by Markus Ludwig at the Zwickau district music school and was recognized with special and national awards at Jugend musiziert. In September 2015, he was awarded one of the three diplomas in the Vilnius National Philharmonic as a finalist at the International Ciurlionis Organ Competition.
From 2010 to 2016 he studied at the University of Church Music and at the Carl Maria von Weber Music Academy in Dresden, including in the organ classes of Frauenkirche organist Samuel Kummer and Prof. Martin Strohhäcker. He received an award for his final concert as part of the artistic A-exam in the Dresden Frauenkirche, in which he presented his own organ version of Till Eulenspiegel by Richard Strauss.
His creative and unconventional programming makes him a welcome guest at the Saxon Mozart Festival, OrgelPlus Bottrop, the summer concerts at the German Church in Stockholm, the Papal Basilica of St. Mary in Kevelaer and the Dresden Frauenkirche, among others.
As a soloist he has performed with the Saxon Symphony Orchestra Chemnitz, the Central Saxon Philharmonic and the Quedlinburg Festival Orchestra, among others.
The first CD recording of the Symphony from the New World by Antonín Dvořák together with his brother Pascal took both musicians to the Dresden Frauenkirche in 2019.
