Info for Gold

Organist Lukas Hasler presents Gold, a radiant debut album featuring his own transcriptions and arrangements for organ. What began five years ago with a fascination for Mozart’s G Major Sonata in Edvard Grieg’s two-piano version grew into an artistic journey into the transformative world of transcription. Hasler discovered in the organ an instrument capable not only of recreating orchestral and pianistic textures, but of reshaping them into something entirely new. To capture this vision, he turned to the iconic Golden Hall of the Musikverein in Vienna, whose expressive possibilities and glowing acoustics inspired both the selection of repertoire and the album’s title.

Gold offers a rich spectrum of colours and styles, from the jubilant brilliance of Bach’s Sinfonia (in Dupré’s vibrant transcription) to the tender intimacy of Schumann’s Romance, recorded here for the first time on organ. Hasler brings theatrical flair to Lemare’s arrangement of Carmen Fantasy, profound stillness to Beethoven’s “Moonlight” Adagio, and symphonic vitality to Bruckner’s Nullte Scherzo, while Mozart’s G Major Sonata – filtered through Grieg’s imagination and Hasler’s own artistry – bridges Classical clarity and Romantic warmth. Rachmaninoff’s stormy Prelude, Lefébure-Wély’s sparkling Boléro, and the playful, genre-bending Vienna Calling complete a program that celebrates invention, personality, and the golden richness of the Viennese organ sound.

Lukas Hasler
belongs to a new generation of organists who have made a name for themselves internationally through virtuosity, creativity, and media presence – in 2026, ClassicFM, the world's largest classical music radio station, named him one of its "Rising Stars." He currently lives and works between Vienna and Los Angeles and is a doctoral candidate at the University of Southern California under Cherry Rhodes. He graduated with distinction from the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz with a degree in organ performance under Ulrich Walther. He gained formative international experience in Strasbourg with Johann Vexo and in Hamburg, where he also completed a degree in cultural and media management.

His concert career has taken him to renowned stages worldwide – from the Berlin Philharmonie and Brisbane City Hall in Australia to the Bruckner Organ in St. Florian, Austria. In the USA, he has performed in the largest cathedrals from coast to coast, as well as in legendary venues such as the Methuen Memorial Music Hall in Boston and the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. Other highlights include his performances at the opening gala of the Salzburg Festival and numerous engagements with AGO Conventions.

In 2022, Hasler made a musical statement of solidarity: He was the first classical musician to perform in Ukraine after the outbreak of war, appearing at the Lviv Concert Hall and giving two benefit concerts for war victims. He is also in demand as a teacher – for example, at international masterclasses, including at the Madrid Conservatory and the University of Almaty in Kazakhstan. In addition to playing the organ, Lukas Hasler is also active as a composer and arranger: His early works received awards at the "Jugend komponiert" (Youth Composes) competition, and his arrangements for organ are now a staple of his concert repertoire. That same year, the Kleine Zeitung newspaper named him "Newcomer of the Year" after he had already won the "Prima la Musica" music competition several times and the Grand Prix at the International Organ Competition in Malta. His recordings on the grand organ in the Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein marked a particular milestone. His latest solo CD, Gold (2026/Pentatone), featuring arrangements of well-known works by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, and Bruckner, has been enthusiastically received by both the press and the public.

With his passion project, Organ For Planet, Lukas Hasler connects music with global awareness: He performs organ concerts in extraordinary locations around the world—places distinguished by their geographical location, cultural history, or political significance. The project kicked off with a concert at St. Thomas Church in New York City immediately after the US elections. His journey then took him to the world's largest church in Yamoussoukro, Ivory Coast, and to the northernmost permanently inhabited place on Earth: Svalbard.

Lukas Hasler is bringing the organ into the digital age: Over 100,000 followers on social media follow his journey to present classical music in a contemporary way.
