Trio Isimsiz (Turkish for ‘no name’) have certainly been making themselves a name as one of the most exciting young piano trios on the classical music scene. All three members of the Trio Isimsiz enjoy great success individually. Erdem Misirlioglu was a Concerto Finalist in the BBC Young Musician competition in 2008, Pablo Hernán Benedí is a member of the Chiaroscuro Quartet, formed by Alina Ibragimova, and Michael Petrov represented the UK in the European Concert Halls Organisation Rising Star series. This is the Trio’s debut recording.
‘The piano trio repertoire contains so many masterpieces that choosing what to record for our debut CD posed a real challenge. Brahms’ masterful final piano trio was one of the first pieces we learnt together, and we chose to open with this as it represents the beginning of a journey for us as an ensemble. It is not a surprise that Brahms chose the key of C minor for his most dramatic piano trio. He famously revered Beethoven, who reserved this key for his stormiest music.
Takemitsu's Between Tides was a revelation for us. We really enjoy learning new music as a trio, and the more we worked on Between Tides and experienced it in performance, the more we discovered and marvelled at his unique sound world and expression. It seemed fitting for us to record Beethoven, having worked our way through all of his piano trios together. Ever the revolutionary, after Haydn and Mozart he took this medium and really made it his own, bringing a greater equality to the instruments than anyone before him’ Trio Isimsiz.
