Seby Burgio
(Siracusa 1989) began studying piano at the age of 4. As a child he took part in and won several national competitions: second place at “Pedara Piano Competition 1998”, first place at “Solarino Piano Competition 1998”, first place at “Ispica Piano Competition 1999”, first place at “Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto Piano Competition 1999”, first place at “Lentini Piano Competition 1999”, first place at “Pedara Piano Competition 1999”, first place at “Lentini Piano Competition 2000”.
When he was thirteen, he began studing jazz with pianists Marco Genovese and Alberto Alibrandi, then, in 2004, with pianist Andrea Beneventano.
In 2006 he attended “Umbria Jazz” summer workshops by Berklee College and he took part in Gary Burton Special Workshop.
In 2008 he participated in the “Massimo Urbani Award” and he won Umbria Jazz 2008 scholarship, the audience prize and a CD recording. In the same year he attended “Umbria Jazz” summer workshops by Berklee College and he took part in Miroslav Vitous Special Workshop and he obtained a special mention as new talent.
In the same year he won “Giuseppe Ierna Young Talent Competition” in Floridia.
In December 2008, his first album “Giant Steps” (Philology) was released with Massimo Manzi on drums and Massimo Morriconi on double bass.
In 2009, he took part in the “Chicco Bettinardi Jazz Award” in Piacenza coming second.
In the same year he won the second prize in the national “Vittoria Jazz Award” and he received the first “Aldo Zannelli Award”.
In 2010, he won the critics prize at the “European Jazz Contest” in Rome and the first prize “Pippo Ardini Jazz Contest” in Palermo with his new trio URBAN FABULA composed by Alberto Fidone on double bass and Giuseppe Tringali on drums.
In 2011, he participated in the “St. Louis Jazz School Workshops” studying with Danilo Perez, John Patitucci and Joe La Barbera. In the same year was released his second Album with his new trio “URBAN FABULA” (A-Beat Records). He recorded a CD “Cieli di Sicilia” with OJDM, a Bigband directed by Maurizio Giammarco. He won the “Lelio Luttazzi Jazz Piano Award 2011” obtaining a scholarship at the New School in New York.
He won the “Enzo Randisi Jazz Award 2011”.
In 2012 he graduated in Classical Piano in Messina's Conservatory.
With Urban Fabula he won “Filadelfia Jazz Competition 2012” and “Paolo Randazzo Jazz Award 2012”. In the same year he won “Amigdala Music Talent” with singer Manuela Ciunna.
He received the “Corrado Maranci Prize” and he recorded also many Cds: Nello Toscano “PATCHWORK”, Claudio Giambruno “MOON IS HERE”, OJDM directed by Maurizio Giammarco “VIE DI FUGA” and more...
In the same year he graduated in Classical Piano at A.Corelli Conservatory in Messina.
In 2013 he won 'Baronissi jazz competition' with Urban Fabula. In the same year he won 'Barga Jazz Contest' with Urban Fabula and 'Luca Flores Award' as best soloist into Barga Jazz Contest Competition.
In 2014 he travel to New York to study with Phil Markowitz and Mark Soskin (Sonny Rollins Pianist).
He boasts many illustrious collaborations as Enrico Rava, Fabrizio Bosso, Barbara Casini, Fabio Concato, Larry James Ray, Paolo Belli, Giovanni Amato, Maurizio Giammarco, Tony Arco, Marcello Pellitteri, Marco Panascia, Michael Rosen, Gegè Telesforo, Barbara Casini, Orazio Maugeri, Stefano Bagnoli, Alfredo Paixao, Dario Deidda, Javier Girotto, Rosario Giuliani, Steve Grossman, Qbeta, Nicola Angelucci, Max Ionata, Barbara Casini and many more. He has taken part in numerous festivals (Canicattini Jazz, Vittoria Jazz, Enterpoint Jazz – Paris, Castelbuono Jazz, Noto in Jazz, Napoli Jazz and many more...).
As music assistant he took part in several jazz clinics: Piazza Jazz 2011, Filicudi Jazz 2011, Piazza Jazz 2012, Messina Sea Jazz 2013.
