Biography Nidaros domkor & Karen Haugom Olsen
The Nidaros Cathedral Choir
is Nidaros Cathedral's own chamber choir with around 40 members. The choir's repertoire consists primarily of church music from the last 500 years, as well as world premieres of works by local and national composers. On the CD Nidaros (2010), Nidaros Cathedral Choir has recorded excerpts from music written especially for the choir, and in 2014 the CD recording of Torbjørn Dyrud's "Out of Darkness" was nominated for a Grammy for Best Choral Performance. Nidaros Cathedral Choir emphasises the importance of maintaining the highest musical standards in innovative performances, productions of major works and participation in Nidaros Cathedral's worship life. The choir regularly collaborates with internationally recognised soloists, conductors and musicians, and represents Trondheim and Nidaros Cathedral regionally, nationally and internationally.
Cathedral Cantor Karen Haugom Olsen has been the choir's permanent conductor since 2016. In 2020, the choir was also awarded "production and operating support for choirs at a particularly high level" by the Ministry of Culture.
