We compose music that resembles us: an obvious inspiration that ensues from our double culture at the crossroads of tango and chamber music - French esprit and Argentine soul.
Two creators, two aesthetics, two sensibilities and two different imaginative universes illuminating each other, feeding mutually in a totally original repertoire, both flamboyant and intimate.
Our accomplices Sébastien Surel and Romain Descharmes challenge us to write music in their honour, music worthy of them, which they sublime and nurture with their art. The group thus becomes an incredible machine of ongoing creation, as attests our second opus in three years. After Tango hoy in 2014, this pushes the search for our own sound world and aesthetic even further.
With this second disc, CHAMUYO, we sought a delicate balance between virtuosic compositions and total expressive spareness, with pieces like ‘Era de esperar’ and ‘Candombe blanco’, composed on reinterpreted South-American rhythms; more experimental pieces that explore new sound matters and accentuations like ‘Cuentos graves’ and ‘Chamuyo’; ethereal pieces like ‘Mar y sol’ and ‘777’; two trios (‘Nada casi’ and ‘Milonga del eco’, dedicated to Astor Piazzolla) where the absences enlighten more intimate balances; or a piece for solo violin, which forms a silent line.
The boundary between popular and ‘highbrow’ dissolves before the high standards, refinement and force of a music at the highest level - a group stemming from the powerful encounter of two of the most sought-after French chamber musicians with two of the most conspicuous tango musicians in Europe -, making way for a unique project that shatters labels and the tango of forever, and opening an imaginative universe finally renewed.
