Jonas Simonson
One of Sweden’s most established and innovative flute players within folk and world music. For the past 30 years he has traveled the globe with his music. As an artist he has had a great impact on the innovative Swedish folk music scene and is featured on numerous albums with his intense, rhythmical and personal style of playing. He is at moment active playing with Groupa, Zephyr, Crane Dance Trio, Tuultenpesä, Westan and Jormin/Nelsson/Simonson. He has previously worked with Den Fule, Bäsk, Kapell Frisell and the Vocal Ensemble Amanda.
Jonas Simonson is an experienced and respected educator. Jonas has been working at the Academy of Music and Drama at the University of Gothenburg since 2001 as a program manager and teacher at the world music department. He has previously worked as a flute and ensemble teacher at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, Ingesund School of Music School, Malmö Academy of Music, University College of Music Education in Stockholm and Danish National Academy of Music.
Anders Jormin
was born 1957 in Jönköping, Sweden. After intense studies, he left Musikhögskolan in Göteborg with diplomas in double-bass and improvisation / pedagogy in 1979.
Today as a doublebass-player and composer, AJ is a frequent and highly respected performer on the international concert scene. As a musician in great demand, AJ has recorded and toured with many of the legends in jazz. Among others : Gilberto Gil, Lee Konitz, Elvin Jones, Joe Henderson, Don Cherry, Charles Lloyd, Mike Mainieri, Joe Lovano, and Jack deJohnette, as well as Kenny Wheeler, Albert Mangelsdorff, Tomasz Stanko, Dino Saluzzi, John Surman, John Taylor, Marilyn Mazur, Arve Henriksen, Mark Feldman , Paul Motian, Joey Baron, Tom Rainey , Jon Balke, Vertavo string quartet , Ann-Sofi von Otter, Norma Winstone and Marilyn Crispell. For many years, AJ was also a front figure in one of Scandinavias foremost ensembles, "Entra".
AJ today performs regularly all over Europe, USA/Canada, and Japan, but has also for shorter periods performed and studied ethnic music in Cuba and Mocambique. At the present AJ is a member of Bobo Stenson trio, and the unique swedish group "dr Dingo". AJ is also constantly creating new projects of his own, highly appreciating challenging work on local and national level as well as his international obligations. AJ is an "ECM recording artist".
Karin Nelson
was born in Skellefteå in the far north of Sweden. She studied music and education at the Piteå School of Music and church music at the Gothenburg School of Music. From the latter she also received her Soloist Diploma. During two years at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam she studied harpsichord and organ. Nelson earned her doctorate with a dissertation titled Improvisation and Pedagogy through Heinrich Scheidemann’s Magnificat Settings. Nelson is senior lecturer in organ repertoire and organ improvisation at the Academy of Music and Drama, University of Gothenburg. She gives regular recitals in Sweden and abroad and has made several recordings.
