Info zu Contrasts - Choral Works by: Elgar, Mäntyjärvy, Biebl, Whitacre, Vermeeren, Lauridsenen Gorecki
Cantatrix is an ensemble aiming for the highest level of choral singing. In their first cd the singers present their group in a program of mainly contemporary music. The principal characteristic of the repertoire in this recording is a high degree of variety, resulting in...you guessed - contrasts.
Ensemble Cantatrix
Geert-Jan van Beijeren en Henegouwen, conductor
Cantatrix
In the course of twenty years, Cantatrix has developed from a club of singing friends into a mature chamber choir, professionally performing in various concert series every year. Although under the leadership of conductor Hans Leenders their sound has matured, it has basically remained unchanged. The secret of the choir: high individual singing abilities combined with the unity and the chemistry in the group.
The results speak for themselves: international tours have taken Cantatrix to concert venues in many countries and have brought growing recognition. England, Germany, Italy, France, Poland, Belarus, Finland, and all kinds of prizes at prestigious competitions and festivals. On a number of occasions the choir has even shared the programme with the famous King’s Singers.
With the new cd ‘Hear my prayer’ Cantatrix again presents itself as a vocal ensemble on its way to the top.
Hans Leenders
is artistic director of Cantartrix and Studium Chorale, artistic advisor of the Dutch Gregorian Chant festival, the Chorbiennale Aachen and the festival l’Europe & l’Orgue.
He is a principal teacher for organ and music history at the Maastricht Conservatory and teaches gregorian chant at the Folkwang-University of Arts in Essen (Germany) during summer-courses. Hans Leenders is the principal organist of the Basilica of our Lady in Maastricht (Séverin 1652, Müseler 1765?) and organist-titulair in the Kopermolen in Vaals (Hilgers 1765). Guestconductor with Radio-choir Slovenia, Groot Omroepkoor, Cappella Amsterdam, Europa Cantat and several conservatories in Europe. Orchestralproductions with Philharmonie Zuidnederland, Symfonieorkest Vlaanderen, Florilegium Musicum and Ensemble ’88 (specialised in contemporary music). As a composer he is known especially for his vocal music, editions by Ascolta, Harmonia and De Haske.
