Ein liebevolles Tribut an den 2024 verstorbenen Schlagzeuger Alex Riel. Als Schlagzeuger war er einzigartig – verspielt, energiegeladen und ein Generationstalent. Wie es das Schicksal wollte, wurde Riel Pasborgs Pate, und die Musik wurde zum Tor zu einem magischen Universum aus Trommeln, Becken, Gongs und einem Meer von Schlagzeugklängen, das sie gemeinsam erforschten.

Stefan Pasborg ist einer der bekanntesten und vielseitigsten Schlagzeuger Dänemarks. Mit seinem energiegeladenen Stil und seiner experimentellen Herangehensweise an das Schlagzeug hat er sich einen Namen in der Jazz-, Avantgarde- und Rockmusik gemacht und mit vielen dänischen und internationalen Künstlern gespielt und aufgenommen.

Vor ein paar Monaten fand Pasborg eine handgeschriebene Liste mit Alex‘ Lieblingsliedern in der Handschrift des inzwischen verstorbenen Schlagzeugers. Ihr Anblick berührte Stefan zutiefst und inspirierte ihn dazu, sein Trio, bestehend aus zwei weiteren dänischen Spitzenmusikern, dem Pianisten Carsten Dahl und dem Tenorsaxophonisten Fredrik Lundin, ins Studio einzuladen, um ihre Versionen einiger dieser Songs aufzunehmen. Ziel war es, die Unmittelbarkeit und Spontaneität einzufangen, die die Energie mit Alex immer auszeichnete. Das Ergebnis ist dieses Album.

Stefan Pasborg
is a Danish drummer and composer. He also founded ILK MUSIC which is a Danish record company. He was named “New Name of the Year” at the Danish Music Award Jazz 2004, and his album Toxikum was chosen Jazz Discovery of the year. The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry gives out the Danish Music Awards Jazz each year. He has recorded and performed with many international artists, including Miroslav Vitous and Ellery Eskelin. Pasborg has toured extensively in Europe, the US, and Asia both as a leader and as a sideman. Pasborg, who was three years old when he started playing the drums, was nominated as one of the “Best Debut albums of 2007” by All About Jazz-New York. A present was given to him by Alex Riel, a friend and renowned Danish drummer. Pasborg also received a drumset as a gift. He decided to continue playing in later years and to enroll at the prestigious Copenhagen Jazz Conservatory. There, among other internationally renowned Jazz musicians, such as Ed Thigpen (Niels-Henning Orsted Perdersen), Horace Parlan, Atilla Engin, and Horace Parlan, he was taught by some of the best teachers in Jazz. He met thirteen other young musicians at the conservatory and they formed ILK Music, an independent record label. John Kelman (All About Jazz USA) stated about Pasborg that “Percussionist Stefan Pasborg” is a young Dane. He has studied with Joey Baron and Jim Black over the years. It is not surprising that his playing is bold, even though it can sometimes seem barely on the edge. He demonstrates a solid command of the instrument, even when it is at its most chaotic.
