Info for AIX Allstars Surrounded by Christmas
This is a very special recording and has become one of my favorites (and one of the favorites of the staff here at AIX Records. The musicians are absolutely first class…just take a look at their bios and discographies (50 pages for Lee Sklar!!) and you know they are capable of musical expression of the highest level. The arrangements by Laurence Juber with help from his associates take each tune in its own direction. Listen to the 5/4 meter of O Tannenbaum or the Celtic influence of I Saw Three Ships…and revel in the surf version of Hark, The Herld Angels Sing. The audio side is mixed from the middle of the ensemble, which brings you inside the music like you’ve never heard before (unless you own other AIX titles). Check it out. This will be playing long after the holidays are gone.
Laurence Juber’s award-winning DVD-Audio/Video disc “Guitar Noir” was the trigger for this holiday-themed disc. He was so amazed by the sound that he called me up and said, “what else can we do?”. We talked about a few ideas and landed on a Christmas jazz album in surround. The tunes were mostly head arrangements but the spontaneity of these tracks speaks for themseleves.
The sound of this recording brings these incredible instrumentalists into your listening space. The HD-Audio surround mixes immerse you in the musical interplay with full range frequency response and dynamics. Check out how great intimate jazz can sound!
