The New York Times once described Quatuor Ébène as “a string quartet that can easily transform itself into a jazz band”. What began as a diversionary exercise for four young music students is today the symbol of the fresh approach to the tradition and modernity of the quartet. And that was exactly what earned them 1st Prize in the 2004 edition of the renowned ARD International Music Competition. It would mark the beginning of an international career that would see the French quartet go on to win many prizes, including several ECHO KLASSIK awards.

The multi-award-winning Quatuor Ébène string quartet is one of the best in the world and celebrated around the globe. It inspires a growing and especially younger audience.

The quartet has titled its 2019 and 2020 world tour “Beethoven Around the World”.

The tour will see the quartet perform about 40 concerts in 18 countries around the world (starting in April 2019). The altogether seven trips to all of the continents will be the subject of a documentary and documented in seven live albums with all of Beethoven’s quartets. The Anniversary Year will conclude with the performance of the complete cycle of Beethoven’s string quartets at various outstanding music venues, including New York’s Carnegie Hall.
