'Es gibt zwei Arten von Musik', soll Duke Ellington einmal gesagt haben. 'Gute Musik... und die andere Sorte.' Mit dem Satz wollte er seine Abneigung gegen jegliche stilistische Kategorisierung ausdrücken. Und viele sogenannte 'Jazzer' haben ihre Musik seitdem mit eigenen Begriffen versehen, um eine Distanz zu den traditionellen Stilbezeichnungen zu schaffen (obwohl sie deren Elemente durchaus benutzen). Jetzt kommt der neue Kunstbegriff 'Sonacy' hinzu, den eine Garde junger amerikanischer Musiker erfunden hat, um ihre genreübergreifende Musik zu bezeichnen. Das Albumprojekt 'Supreme Sonacy, Volume 1' markiert den Beginn einer Kooperation des Blue-Note-Labels mit der New Yorker Live-Musik-Agentur REVIVE MUSIC, bei der viele junge Musiker der Jazz- und Black-Music-Szene unter Vertrag sind.

'Supreme Sonacy' kombiniert die innovativen Sounds von Musikern wie Ben Williams, Kris Bowers, Marcus Strickland, Keyon Harrold und Casey Benjamin mit dem rebellischen Geist von Künstlern wie Igmar Thomas, Brandee Younger, Raymond Angry und Terry Slingbaum. Ohne den Blick für die große Vergangenheit des Jazz (aber eben auch anderer Stile) aus den Augen zu verlieren, preschen sie hier gemeinsam in die Zukunft der Musik. 'Ich denke, die Leute von REVIVE verstehen den Grundcharakter von Musik sehr gut', sagt Blue-Note-Präsident Don Was. 'Denn der ist, sich immer nach vorne zu bewegen. Nicht von Dekade zu Dekade oder Jahr zu Jahr, sondern jeden Tag.'

Zwar zitieren oder reinterpretieren die Musiker hier in wechselnden Konstellationen neben ihren eigenen Originalen Jazzklassiker wie John Coltranes 'A Love Supreme', Wayne Shorters 'Pinocchio' und Lee Morgans 'The Procrastinator', greifen aber auch gänzlich jazzfremdes Material wie den Janet-Jackson-Hit 'Let's Wait Awhile' oder sogar Maurice Ravels 'Jeux D'Eau' auf. Als Bindeglied zwischen den Tracks fungieren kurze Remix-Interludien des DJ Brian 'Raydar' Ellis, die ein wenig an die Übergänge erinnern, die Jazzmusiker früher oft bei Live-Auftritten zwischen ihren eigentlichen Nummern spielten.

A compilation dedicated to funk and pre – zouk period, which has never been documented before. It is compilated by specialists of the genre: Julien Achard (Digger's Digest) and Nicolas SKLIRIS (ex-Superfly Records).

After the success of Kouté Jazz, Heavenly Sweetness comes back with a dancefloor but not jazz compilation, enough to move your feet at through the whole summer ! 13 disco, boogie and Zouk tracks recorded in the 80’s in the West Indies.

The advantage of this selection is precisely that it reveals a broader spectrum than the zouk music style that are badly defined. Most of the tracks, were not much broadcasted even if interpreted by some big names in Caribbean music (Pierre-Edouard Decimus / Patrick St. Eloi / Eddy La Viny). They were too fast classified as Zouk. These Tracks reveal this will of singularity, this merger between traditional and other rhythms genres (funk, disco, afro-beat, Latin Brazilian ...), with the addition of new instruments such as synthesizers and drums machine in the creative process.

In many zouk’s albums, this period often included one or even several, tracks that were qualified as "proto-zouk" and "funky-zouk" or the "boogie-zouk" to emphasize the fusion of genres . But these tracks have remained unknown to the general public because only the "hits" were played on the radio, dance floors (the famous "tan" or “zouk”), clubs and bus.
